9th Annual Quality Education
Conference:
Strengthening Opportunities to Learn in Challenging
Economic Times
May 7-8, 2009, Washington, DC
Less than one month remains until
the 9th Annual Quality Education Conference Washington,
DC. If you have not done so already, we urge you to
register
for this year’s event.
We hope that you will be able to join us on May 7-8
to discuss pressing issues in education, specifically
the budgetary concerns that are facing most states.
We are in the process of finalizing what promises to
be an exciting and substantive agenda,
which includes dynamic sessions on issues such as state
constitutional perspectives on blocking education budget
cuts, the possibilities or pitfalls that could stem
from the federal stimulus bill, and educational opportunities
for English language learners and immigrants in light
of the recent U.S. Supreme Court case, Flores v.
Arizona.
It is our hope that this conference will help begin
a dialogue on education budget issues between plaintiff
litigators, educators, advocates, and policy experts.
We encourage conference participants to share information
and strategies regarding their states’ reactions
to budget cuts, the infusion of federal stimulus money,
and the looming “facing the cliff” concern
that states may encounter when the money provided by
the federal government runs out. To help facilitate
these discussions, we will be distributing questionnaires
to participants regarding their state’s reactions
to such issues.
The hotel room rate for the conference has been
reduced. Registrants who have already
made reservations will have the new rate applied as
well. Space is limited and rooms are going quickly.
The deadline to book a hotel room at
the reduced conference rate has been extended to Wednesday,
April 15, 2009. To make your hotel reservation
online, please click here.
To make your hotel reservation by telephone, please

Voters. It is also supported by Public Advocates, Public
Education Network, and Rural School and Community Trust.
