Alaska Center for Excellence in Schools (ACES)

The stated mission of the Alaska Center for Excellence in Schools (ACES), founded in 2001 by a Memorandum of Agreement between the president of the University of Alaska and the Commissioner of Education and Early Development, is to close the achievement gap that separates Native students from their peers. To that end, the ACES strives to focus on: research on low-performing schools; teacher quality; student readiness and performance; and standards-based curriculum and assessment, among other education issues. The Center also provides resources on educational and Native peoples' issues.
