ASPIRA of Florida, Inc.

A local affiliate of the national ASPIRA Association, Inc., ASPIRA describes itself as a youth community-based organization dedicated to the leadership development of youth. ASPIRA provides services to Homestead, Wynwood, Miami Beach, North Miami, South Broward, and Palm Beach. Its stated mission is to empower the Puerto Rican, Latino, and other minorities through education and the leadership development of youth.

Voices for Florida's Children

Voices for Florida's Children states that it is dedicated to placing children in the spotlight of public attention so that their needs can be identified and their problems addressed. The Center's myriad goals include fighting poverty, promoting fiscal responsibility, advocating for affordable healthcare, investing in communities, and fighting for quality education. The Center's 2002 Agenda includes a call to establish "full-service schools," which provide a complete set of services for children, including medical, counseling, and parent support, as well as a warning that it is harmful for most children when resources are diverted from public schools.

Public Education Network Local Affilitates:

Alliance for World Class Education

The stated mission of the Alliance for World Class Education is to advocate for Duval County Public School students, in partnership with the County School Board and the Superintendent, in order to create a world-class education system. To that end, Alliance members aim to implement resources and excerise influence in ares where they can provide the greatest impact on public education. Alliance programs include a funding-adequacy project with the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Jacksonville.

Foundation for Orange County Public Schools

The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools strives to strengthen and enhance learning environments for all students by delivering additional funds and resources to schools, and by linking the community to the classroom in creative ways. In the Read2Succeed program, for example, volunteers, recruited from local businesses, government agencies, and the genral public, are trained to provide one-on-one reading assistance and mentoring to second-grade students reading below grade level.

Hillsborough Education Foundation, Inc.

The Hillsborough Education Foundation states that its mission is to support academic excellence for teachers and students by securing private-sector resources for K-12 public education. Led by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of business, education, and community leaders, the Foundation has raised over $35 million for programs that are not funded by tax revenue.
