Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now ACORN describes
itself as the nation's largest community organization of low and moderate-income
families, with over 120,000 member families organized into 600 neighborhood chapters
in 45 cities across the country. Since 1970 ACORN has taken action on many of
the political and social issues which concern its members. ACORN's priorities
include: better housing for first time homebuyers and tenants, living wages for
low-wage workers, more investment in our communities from banks and governments,
and better public schools. ACORN hopes to achieve these goals by supporting community-based
organizations that have the power to affect change locally-- through direct action,
negotiation, legislation, and voter participation. A list of contact information

website. Advocates for
Children and Youth (ACY) Advocates for Children and Youth believes
that all children in Maryland should receive the quality of education needed to
compete in the international economy of the 21st century. Their Education Program
seeks to improve educational outcomes for Marylands children, particularly
those living in poverty. The program provides staff support for the New Maryland

Civil Liberties Union of Maryland The American Civil Liberties Union
of Maryland has been an active voice for adequate school funding and accountability
in Baltimore City for more than two decades. The ACLU of Maryland represents "at-risk"
students and is working with a statewide coalition seeking funding for a "thorough
and efficient" education, as required by the state constitution. 3600

The New Maryland Education Coalition The New Maryland
Education Coalition is a statewide coalition of organizations, such as the Maryland
ACLU and the state PTA,
and individuals who are interested in promoting educational adequacy through funding
reform and accountability. The Coalition, a project of Advocates
for Children and Youth (ACY), is staffed by ACY's education director.
